Maps, Virtual Earth / Nearest placesTelstra Dome is a stadium in the developing Docklands precinct of Melbourne, Australia, that caters for both sporting and entertainment events. The stadium opened on 9th March 2000, as Colonial Stadium. The name was changed to Telstra Dome on 1st October 2002 when the telecommunications company Telstra acquired the naming rights.
The stadium was developed as a replacement for Waverley Park. The Seven Network previously owned the stadium, but on 21st June, 2006 sold its interests to James Fielding Funds Management for $AUD 330 million.[1] In 2020 the network was meant to hand the stadium to the AFL.

Its primary use was for rugby league, but football (soccer) and rugby union also used the ground for major matches, and later for domestic competition.
Prior to its construction, major events were usually held at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), which being an Oval field was not ideal for the sports.
The SFS was built in Moore Park, adjacent to the SCG, on the grounds of the former Sydney Sportsground and is owned by the SCG Trust. Its seating capacity is 41,159, although the venue's official record attendance for a sporting event stands at 43,967, for the 1993 FIFA World Cup Qualifier when Australia played Argentina.

It is used for Test cricket, one-day international cricket, some rugby league and rugby union matches, and is the home ground for the New South Wales Blues cricket team and the Sydney Swans of the Australian Football League. It is owned/operated by the SCG Trust that also manages Aussie Stadium located next door.
In 1810, then-Governor Lachlan Macquarie designated an area on the outskirts of the growing colony of Sydney to be Hyde Park, a place which would include a racecourse, a park and a cricket ground. In 1851, a new piece of land south of Victoria Barracks was granted to the British Army for use as a garden and cricket ground for the soldiers. This area became known as Moore Park and was soon the primary location for cricket matches in Sydney.

It is also the home of Queensland Rugby, and was the home ground for the Queensland Reds and the Brisbane Strikers Soccer Club. The Queensland Reds have since moved to Suncorp Stadium and the Brisbane Strikers collapsed. The Strikers were replaced by the Queensland Roar FC in 2005 for the newly formed A-League.
Ballymore has a capacity of 24,000 spectators.
