Lake Erie (pronounced [ˈi.ɹi]) is the most southern of the five Great Lakes of North America. It is bounded on the north by Ontario, on the south by the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York, and on the west by the state of Michigan.

The name of the lake is named after the Erie tribe of Native Americans who lived along its southern shore before European contact.

Lake Erie (42º30'N, 81°00'W) is the world's 13th largest natural lake, if the Caspian and Aral Seas are counted. It has a surface area of 9,910 sqmi (25,700 km²); an average depth of 62 ft (19 m); and contains 116 cubic miles (484 km³) of water. For comparison, Lake Superior has an average depth of 483 ft (147m), a volume of 2,900 cu. mi. (12,100 km³) and shoreline of 2,726 mi (4385 km).

Lake Erie has an elevation of 569 ft (173 m) above sea level. Its length is 241 mi (388 km) and its breadth is 57 mi (92 km). The average depth is 62 ft (19 m) with a maximum depth of 210 ft (64 m). The western section, comprising 1/4 of the area is even shallower with an average depth of 42 ft (13 m) and a maximum depth of 62 ft (19 m).

Lake Erie is primarily fed by the Detroit River (from Lake Huron and Lake St. Clair) and drains via the Niagara River and Niagara Falls into Lake Ontario. Navigation downstream is provided by the Welland Canal, part of the Saint Lawrence Seaway. Other major tributaries of Lake Erie include the Grand River, the River Raisin, the Huron River, the Maumee River, the Sandusky River and the Cuyahoga River.

Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes of North America. It is bounded, in a clockwise direction from the south, by the U.S. states of Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

Lake Michigan (43°30'N, 87°30'W) is the only one of the Great Lakes wholly within the borders of the United States; the others are shared with Canada. It has a surface area of 22,300 square miles (57,750 square km), making it the largest freshwater lake in the US, the largest lake entirely within one country, and the 5th largest lake in the world. It is 307 miles (494 km) long by 118 miles (190 km) wide with a shoreline 1,640 mi (2,633 km) long. The lake's average depth is 279 ft (85 m), while its greatest depth is 925 ft (282 m). It contains a volume of 1,180 cubic mi (4,918 cubic km) of water. Its surface averages 577 ft (176 m) above sea level, the same as Lake Huron, to which it is connected through the Straits of Mackinac.

Lake Huron, bounded on the west by Michigan and on the east by Ontario, is one of the five Great Lakes of North America.

The name of the lake is derived from early French explorers who named it based on the Huron people inhabiting the region.

Lake Huron (45°00’N 83°00’W) is the second-largest of the Great Lakes, with a surface area of 23,000 sq mi (59,600 sq km)--nearly the size of West Virginia, making it the third largest fresh water lake on earth (4th if you include the Caspian Sea). It contains a volume of 850 cubic mi (3,540 cubic km), and a shoreline length of 3,827 mi (6,157 km).

The surface of Lake Huron is 577 ft (176 m) above sea level. The lake's average depth is 195 ft (59 m), while the maximum depth is 750 ft (229 m). It has a length of 206 mi (332 km) and a breadth of 183 mi (245 km). It contains 850 cubic miles (3,538 cubic km) of water.

Lake Superior, USA, Canada

Lake Superior (known as Gichigami in an Ojibwe language), bounded by Ontario and Minnesota to the north and Wisconsin and Michigan in the south, is the largest of North America's Great Lakes.

In the Ojibwe language, the lake is called "Gichigami" ("big water"), but it is better known as "Gitche Gumee" as recorded by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in The Song of Hiawatha. Lake Superior is also immortalized in the "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot.

The lake was named Lac Supérieur by French explorers because it was the furthest north of all the Great Lakes.

Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area with Lake Baikal in Siberia larger by volume (Lake Tanganyika in central Africa is estimated to contain a volume of 18,900 km³, and the Caspian Sea while larger, contains salt water.)

Lake Superior (48°00’N, 88°00’W) has a surface area of 31,700 sq. mi. (82,100 km²)--which is larger than South Carolina. It has a maximum length of 350 mi (563 km) and maximum breadth of 160 mi (257 km). Its average depth is 483 ft (147 m) with a maximum depth of 1,332 ft (406 m). Lake Superior contains 2,935 cubic mi (12,232 cubic km) of water. The shoreline of the lake stretches 2,726 miles (4385 km) (including islands). The lake's elevation is 602 ft (183 m) above sea level.
